Educational Facility Design

Tres West Engineers has vast experience in the design of K-12 educational facilities. Over the course of two decades, the firm has provided programming, analysis and design for literally hundreds of facilities. Our firm size and structure supports small remodel projects where economy of design is critical as well as complete campus renovations.


Capital High School

Capital High School Phase 2 Renovations, Olympia, WA

Tres West Engineers provided mechanical and electrical design services for Phase 2 of the Capital High School Project. Our scope of work mechanically included providing a multi-zone HVAC system with gas heating and DX cooling, HVAC and plumbing to support the new science lab and specialized exhaust/makeup air systems to serve the laboratories and shops. Electrical work included custom lighting, power, data, fire alarms and communications. This project was completed in 2007. Mechanical and electrical systems were $4.3 million of the $17.4 million overall cost. The project was completed in phases with staff and students occupying the building during construction.


Friday Harbor High School

Friday Harbor High School Modernization, Friday Harbor, WA

Tres West Engineers provided mechanical and electrical design services for the modernization of the existing building, built in 1952, 1959, and 1977, and the addition of a library and classrooms. Systems design included domestic water service, electric heating and ventilation, fire sprinkling, DDC controls, new electrical service, fire alarm, security and data distribution. Total project cost was $5.4 million with mechanical and electrical systems worth $2.2 million.


Olympia High School

Olympia High School, Olympia, WA

Olympia High School was a complete renovation and addition to an existing facility. The completed square footage was 230,000, with a budget of $27 million. Mechanical and electrical systems totaled $9 million. The school was kept running during construction with the first phase started in July of 1998 and the fifth and final phase completed in 2001.


Bryant Elementary School

Bryant Elementary School, Seattle, WA

Tres West Engineers provided mechanical and electrical design services for the remodel of the main building and building additions at this school, which is listed on the registry of historic buildings. The project budget was $9.8 million and encompassed 75,000 square feet of space with completion occurring in 2001.


Fern Hill Elementary School

Fern Hill Elementary School, Tacoma, WA

Tres West Engineers provided mechanical and electrical design services for the remodel of the main building and building additions totaling approximately 55,000 square feet with a total project cost of $12.9 million. Construction was completed in the fall of 2006.
